ISLAMABAD: The 2020 Women’s Property Rights Protection bill has been approved throughout the federal capital, Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice.
The bill aimed to protect and ensure women’s property rights and property ownership, and it even received the majority of votes in a meeting chaired by Muhammad Javed Abbasi.
The Enforcement of Women’s Property Rights Act, 2020, states that
- The Ombudsman not only has the authority to collect complaints from women deprived of possession or ownership of property but also make sure the implementation by instructing the local administrations and police to reacquire title or possession to the complainant.
- No ruling authority or court can allow an interim order or a stay, to question the legitimacy of the passed orders of the Ombudsman.
- The Deputy Commissioner will conduct an inquiry and give in a report to the Ombudsman after 15 days of the registered complaint.
- The Ombudsman must issue corrective orders within 60 days of receiving the complaint, as required by law, and instruct the Deputy Commissioner or any government official, including the police, to return ownership or possession.
- Women deprived of their rights can register their complaint to any NGO or any of her councils to the Ombudsman to take a suo moto notice.
Related officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Law and Justice were among the meeting attendees.
