The federal government has decided to avoid unnecessary delays affecting development projects by transferring funds directly to the account of the designated project manager – with this initiative aimed at streamlining the projects mentioned before at the district level.
On Monday, Mathar Niaz Rana, Secretary for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives disclosed this information to the media after the Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Initiatives meeting.
Mr Rana informed the assembled press that the committee had explained to the provinces, especially Baluchistan, the creation of an allocation account for the project manager through which funds can be transferred to development projects funded by the federal government.
He added that receiving funds under the existing mechanism could take two to three months. Under the current procedure, funds are first transferred to the provincial account – 1, then to the Regional Finance Secretary, and then transferred to the Project Manager, a process that is time-consuming and delays development projects.
