Karachi: The Prime Minister of Pakistan has put forward a transformation plan to undo the chronic municipal and infrastructure issues caused due to heavy rains in Karachi. Out of this 1,100 billion package of Karachi Transformation Plan (KTP), 62% of funds will be borne by the federal government, other 38% to be spent by the Sindh government.
An amount of PKR 572 billion is to be spent on the city’s mass transit system and railway road transport system. The other big chunk of PKR 267 billion is to be allocated for solid waste disposal systems. Clearing of stormwater drains and the resettlement of the displaced people who have been living on the encroachments on the city’s nullahs.
A total of PKR 141 billion would be spent on the city’s sewage treatment plants; PKR 92 billion on water supply projects, PKR 41 billion on road infrastructure.
