Islamabad: According to a news source, Pakistan Railways (PR) conducted an anti-encroachment operation against private individuals. In this operation, they retrieved 461.8 acres of land from private individuals. Moreover, the land worth billions of rupees and they conducted the operation across the country from 2018 to April 2021.
Further, an official from PR told that “The encroachment operation launched with the assistance of railway police and district administrations,”. Furthermore, he shared the details that “the department retrieved 239.33 acres land in Punjab, 119.92 acres from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 87.81 acres from Sindh and 14.74 acres from Baluchistan.”
The official said that the government is taking several steps to retrieve the encroached land. Likewise, the government surveyed to identify the encroached land. The official said the campaign monitored by the Divisional Superintendents, Headquarters office and Ministry of Railways.
Further, the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued for strict implementation of the policy, the official said.
He told that First Information Reports (FIRs) lodged against the accused and sent to the Pakistan Railways Judicial Magistrates for a speedy recovery. He said that the operation will continue till the elimination and regularization of encroachments.
Moreover, the official said that Pakistan Railways owns 167,690 acres of land across the country, of which 90,326-acre is in Punjab, 39,428-acre in Sindh, 28,228-acre in Baluchistan and 9,708-acre in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the Geographic Information System (GIS) survey conducted under a project regarding the computerization of railway land records, in which all the encroachments and leases recorded in the Pakistan Railways Land Management Information System (PRLMS) software.
