Lahore: according to a news source, on Friday, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar promulgated an ordinance to set up a commission regarding housing societies. The ordinance is about setting up a commission that will take strict actions against illegal housing societies.
The Governor said that there is no room for illegal housing schemes and strict actions will be taken against them.
According to the ordinance, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan will head a commission that will take action against illegal housing societies.
Moreover, the commission will consist of other members including, a town planner, a civil engineer, a lawyer, and an environmentalist. Furthermore, it will be the prerogative of the commission to take any services of an expert from a public-private sector.
Similarly, the ordinance states that any housing society which is not complying with legal requirements will be punished. The punishment includes two per cent of land as a penalty. Likewise, the commission will impose a penalty on the value of deficit land as per residential value on the schemes without parks.
Furthermore, it is bounding on the housing scheme to allocate or purchase land for a cemetery within a five-kilometre radius. If the society fails to produce the land for a cemetery, the commission will impose a penalty on the value of deficit land as per residential value.
The ordinance states that if the housing society fails to provide the roads and connect the society to the main road, the commission will impose the penalty of three times the value of deficit land.
Similarly, if the housing society fails to provide standard roads within the society, the commission will be able to impose two times penalty the value of deficit land as per the applicable residential valuation table.
