In a meeting held by the federal cabinet, the prime minister gave a major relief package to all the small, medium, and large-scale industries.
Salient Features:
- No more peak hours
- Additional power with the discount of 50 pc will be given to all industries till June 30th, 2021
- On the usage of additional units, 25pc discount will be given to all the industries for next three years
Prime minister in his address stated that previously electricity rates were quite high because of the various power generation contracts. But now the govt. of Pakistan has decided to give relief to all industrialists whether small or large to enhance the manufacturing rate with higher power consumption. He stated that exporters were given incentives previously which indirectly gave boost to the domestic industries but now a great relief is being provided to all scale industries as industries and the production we’ll get out of it will make our economy stronger in long run.
In addition to that, PM stated, “We have decided that from November 1, small and medium industries using additional power — as compared to their previous bills — will be provided electricity at 50 per cent of the rate till June 30, 2021.” For that he also gave the example that those who were paying 16 Rs/ unit they will now pay 8Rs/ unit and it is going to be applicable for the next three years. However, the additional units used will be given on a discount of 25pc.
Moreover, he also stated that there will be no peak hours from now onwards. Peak hours won’t be charged extra like it was done previously. He said although Corona has not adversely affected our economy like it has affected other countries but still, we are affected by it as it has left a serious affect on our industries. So, “It is very important for us to bring industrialisation to the country. The purpose of this is wealth creation so that we can get rid of our burden of debt.”
He then concluded the meeting by requesting the nation to follow SOPs strictly to stop the spread of Covid-19. He also stated that even in adverse situations, no industry is going to be closed although all of them will follow strict SOPs. Lastly, he said that the package was the necessity of this time to keep industries running during peak hours and also to increase the production and decrease the cost of production and of the manufactured items. It was an excellent step taken by PM Imran Khan and his government to keep the economy in a better running position.
