Gilgit: Climate change assistant of the Prime Minister – Malik Amin Aslam said on Wednesday that PM Imran Khan recently inaugurated Nanga Parbat and Himalayas National Parks in Gilgit-Baltistan – national parks encompass an area of 3600 square kilometers.

Renowned for his commitment to mitigating deforestation and climate change, Prime Minister Imran Khan stresses the importance of developing national parks to protect the endangered wildlife in the region and promote eco-tourism.

Special assistant to Prime minister Amin stated that the parks, as mentioned above, makeup 5% of the whole Gilgit-Baltistan region and help form a “natural corridor” between Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These newly established parks are a unique ecological zone inhabited by rich high mountain biodiversity and valuable species, including the snow, leopards, Himalayan brown bear, blue sheep, ibex, goat, and Laddakh urial.

Besides, he also said that a proper community management system would be integrated into national parks. The prime minister had approved the constitution of Gilgit-Baltistan’s first national park service, an initiative expected to create 5,000 jobs for young people in that region.
