Islamabad: The IHC (Islamabad High Court) has suspended consideration of a notice of a 200% increase in property tax in the federal capital.
The court ordered the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) to collect a real estate tax at the old rates.
He also explained that tax collection is the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad’s (MCI) responsibility, not the CDA (Capital Development Authority) department.
Last year, the Islamabad High Court suspended notice of a tax increase after considering a petition against it. The petition claimed that MCI achieved a 200% increase in Islamabad’s real estate tax while abusing its authority.
It asked the court to overturn the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) to raise the property tax.
Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) agreed to increase the property tax, making it applicable from 1 July 2019. Still, tensions between the Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) and the Capital Development Authority over who would oversee the tax office in charge of collecting property tax have led to the delay in distributing property tax bills.
