The Punjab Tax and Revenue Authority has announced its decision to launch a campaign against property tax defaulters from October 1. The agency’s fiscal 2019-20 tax filing deadline is September 30.

According to sources, notifications for the show-cause by the excise department will be sent to those who do not clear their property tax by the stated date. Immediately after sending messages, the department will begin to crackdown. As part of this campaign, the administration will mark tax defaulters and issue arrest warrants.

The provincial government has waived property tax payments and has announced a postponement of a progressive revision of the rating scales. This is in addition to reduced stamp duty and many other perks that federal and state governments offer people after the lockdown.

Sources say that so far, 30% of property owners have paid their contributions, and a massive crackdown will be launched to collect money from defaulters, which will begin the day after the deadline. According to sources, the excise must meet its tax collection plan during the first quarter of the 2020-2021 fiscal year; Hence, they want to close the tax records for the previous year.
