Karachi: The Sindh Construction Control Authority has allowed the Builders and Developers Association to launch 19 projects under the Naya Pakistan housing scheme. ABAD has approved 250 housing projects.

According to Fayaz Ilyas, head of the Abad Foundation, the permits have been submitted and registered by the Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority. ABAD claims to have documented at least 300 projects.

The Chairperson of the commission highlighted several reasons for the delay in the approval process, the first of which was the slow pace of implementing the Single Window facility launched last year by the SBCA. Since the portal is not yet working for all landowners, the facility did not work as expected.

The approval process should be completed within 45 days, but it takes 90 days for final approval. Besides, landowners usually take a long time to check the condition of the land. ABAD is partnering with the Naya Pakistan Scheme to fulfill Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of providing affordable housing to people.

After the construction industry received a stimulus package from the federal government, the builders agreed to work with the government. Also, there will be tax breaks and no investigation of investments in the construction industry to mitigate the coronavirus’s economic impact.

The package will be approved by the end of 2020. The head of A BAD said the deadline should be extended for another year.
